Frequently Asked Questions

Will the conversion affect the animation?

The conversion process focuses on color space transformation. The animation itself will be preserved, but the color values will be adjusted to fit the CMYK color model. The resulting file will likely need to be re-encoded as a series of CMYK images or a video format suitable for print.

Is the conversion lossless?

Converting between color spaces inevitably involves some degree of color information loss. While our converter strives to minimize this loss, it's important to understand that the CMYK output may not be an exact replica of the original APNG colors. This is due to the different color gamuts of RGB (used in APNG) and CMYK.

What is the maximum file size I can convert?

The maximum file size is currently limited to 5MB. This is to ensure optimal performance and prevent server overload. We are continuously working to increase this limit.

Understanding APNG and CMYK

APNG (Animated Portable Network Graphics) is a modern image format that supports animation, similar to GIF, but with better compression and transparency. CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black) is the color model used for printing. Converting from APNG to CMYK is crucial when preparing animated graphics for professional printing, as printers require CMYK data for accurate color reproduction. Direct display on screens typically uses RGB, but print demands CMYK. This conversion ensures that the colors you see on your screen closely match the printed output. Without proper conversion, colors can appear washed out or inaccurate.
